So your interested in becoming a firefighter.  GREAT!!!  Here you will find the requirements for application into the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department, be able to download and print an application, and be able to email members of the membership committee.

Any person, regardless of gender or race, may apply for membership in the department providing they are in good physical condition, in good health, of good character, and meet the requirements listed below. An applicant unable to perform all of the normal duties of a firefighter due to health or physical problems may still be accepted providing the Membership Committee deems he/she may be able to make a special or unique contribution to the Department.

Requirements for application:

  1. All applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 65.

  2. All applicants must be a resident of Clay Township, Dearborn County, Indiana for at least 1 year prior to applying for membership,

  3. If applicant is a Second Class Firefighter or Firefighter I certified under State Certification Program the 1 year requirement may be waived and/or the applicant may live within 1 mile of the Clay Township line.

  4. Must not have any felony level convictions.

  5. Must not have any convictions of Class ‘A’ or Class ‘B’ misdemeanors which are considered to be a crime against person, drug related, or a crime of moral turpitude.*

  6. Some crimes as listed in the Class A and Class B Misdemeanors may not disqualify an applicant if the conviction is over three years old and if properly reported to the executive committee.

  7. Must not have any arrests or adjudications for arson or arson related activities.

  8. Must pass a criminal background check.

  9. Must pass a drug screening of the following: Marijuana, PCP, Cocaine, Opiates, and Methamphetamines.
